Seven Great Uses for White Cloud Coffee Grounds
With all the new information coming out about the health benefits of coffee, here are even more reasons to brew that morning cup of White Cloud Coffee.
Coffee grounds have a natural dye, absorbing granules, plus tannic acid that provide characteristics for multiple uses.
- Meat marinade. Tenderize beef by combining ¼ cup grounds, course black pepper, coat steaks with olive oil, and then rub the mixture over steaks. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before grilling. The tannic acid helps break down muscle fibers for more tender beef with a spiced up flavor.
- Keep your kitchen drains clear to prevent clogs. By pouring ½ cup of used coffee grounds down your drain once a week, followed by about 4 cups of warm water, the friction from the grounds helps the food dislodge, keeping pipes running smoothly.
- Remove bad odor from your refrigerator. Place a bowl of filtered grounds in your fridge overnight. By morning, the granules will absorb the gases that cause odors.
- Touch up wood furniture. Soak 1 tablespoon in ¼ cup of boiling water for 5 minutes. Dip a cotton swab into the liquid and apply directly to scratches and nicks in wood. The tannins in coffee act as a dye to darken.
- Boost color and shine for dark hair. The natural dye in coffee will bring out color and help to conceal gray while the acidic compounds will dissolves buildup that can dull hair. Just add ¼ cup of grounds to 3 cups of hot water. Completely cool the mixture before pouring over clean wet hair. Let it sit for 2 minutes then rinse hair with thoroughly with warm water.
- Encourage new growth in spring flowers. Just sprinkle a small amount of coffee grounds over the soil of outside flora, the precipitation will release nitrogen from the coffee grounds into the soil to help fertilize dirt.
- Add an antique look for parchment paper. To create your own parchment paper: soak 1/4 cup used coffee grounds in 2 cups of hot water for 5 minutes. Pour the mixture into a large flat pan. Crinkle up thick paper and submerge it into the liquid. Lay flat to dry overnight. The natural color will settle into the creases of the paper for a classic antique look.
